Busy, Busy Mayor: Mamdani’s War on Too-Expensive Eggs and Too-Cheap Luxury Second Homes
In this episode we talk about Mamdani’s plans for municipal grocery stores and whether green carts and farmers markets are already doing this work, the mayor’s proposed Pied-à-terre tax, the state’s war against insurance schemes, and more.

The whole thing is a boondoggle and a farce. There are no food deserts in NYC. And the neighborhood that is the farthest thing from a food desert is Spanish Harlem. I go to Pueblo to buy ingredients I can't get in the UES - like smoky Mexican cilantro for salsa. I pass 3 other grocery stores with fruits and vegetables along the way, and at least 3 other grocery stores that sell canned and frozen food. And "the way" is a 2.5 block walk from the subway stop. I also pass a BK. The BK does a brisk business. The grocery stores all do an OK business- but even if you put them together, BK might to more business. Why? Is it cheaper? No, it is not cheaper. Bananas remain 3-4 for a dollar. The people there get BK because the Whopper with Cheese tastes better than a banana - same reason I get BK when I'm up there. If Mamdani is upset about the lack of "affordability" and "inequality" - he should learn what causes them, maybe start with www.wtfhappenedin1971.com or www.mises.org.
