While the conversation focuses on elite high school admissions, a staggering 300,000 kids are chronically absent from school.
What's especially disturbing about this is that kids in foster care have a higher absentee rate than kids in temporary housing. How is that possible?
The rank orders cast in concrete:
Negative social behavior:
Black
Hispanic
White
Asian
Positive social behavior:
Some things never change.
It's odd that the UFT and other such political actors don't make more of this, if the school system receives state funding based on attendance.
