Welcome To The Bigger Apple Podcast
Each week, we’ll tackle an urgent topic shaping life in New York, often joined by MI colleagues and outside experts who help us think beyond the headlines.
Dear Bigger Apple reader,
We’re excited to announce the launch of The Bigger Apple Podcast — a new weekly show born out of our ongoing conversations with colleagues at the Manhattan Institute about cities’ futures, and New York’s in particular, at a moment when so much is being reconsidered.
We’ve been observing and chronicling New York’s evolution for decades: Nicole through her work at the New York Post, and now at the New York Times, and as a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute — with a deep focus on transportation, streets, and public safety. (Her acclaimed book Movement: New York’s Long War to Take Back Its Streets From the Car won this year’s Gotham Book Prize!) Liena, who joined MI after over 15 years leading the network of news sites that became Bklyner, has reported on Brooklyn’s neighborhoods while navigating city life with three kids — and brings a keen eye to questions of affordability, education, and public space.
Each week, we’ll tackle an urgent topic shaping life in New York, often joined by MI colleagues and outside experts who help us think beyond the headlines. With the mayor’s race just weeks away, we’re starting where much of the city conversation begins: public safety. Next week, we’ll turn to childcare.
Listen and subscribe on Substack or wherever you get your podcasts — and please share your feedback, ideas, and the topics you think we should take on next.
Warmly,
Liena Zagare & Nicole Gelinas
